Routing and Addressing Problem discussions at IETF-68 Mailing list: https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/ram As reported at the IAB plenary at IETF 67, the IAB workshop on Routing and Addressing exposed a concern from network operators regarding the growth and update rate of the DFZ routing table in recent years. In IETF-68 we will talk about this issue from three different aspects. First, an update/discussion on what we've learned about the problem since San Diego and what the current plans are for IETF work in this space. Secondly, a discussion about possible improvements in the routing space. For instance, is there something we could do about the UPDATE dynamics? Finally, a discussion about possible architectural solutions to the routing scalability problem, such as the identifier-locator split designs. This discussion should focus on the desired goals and functionality, impacts on end users and applications etc, rather than the specifics of actual solutions. (But parallel effort on solutions is welcome -- and ongoing.) These three topics are somewhat independent from each other, e.g., the improvements can be useful for many reasons, not just the problem mentioned above. The discussion will take place through the week in four separate forums: the Wednesday plenary,Routing Area meeting, Internet Area meeting, and the RRG meeting. Agenda: 1. Plenary (Wednesday, 18:30--19:30) This is a short report on where we are with this problem and what the IETF can and intends to do about it. - Recent activity in context - This week's activity - Analysis since the Amsterdam workshop - Where to search for solutions - Summary - Open microphone Presentation: http://www.arkko.com/ietf/ietf-68/ietf68_roap_plenary.pdf 2. Internet Area (Thursday, 09:00--11:30): This is an architectural discussion of possible future work in the ID-Locator split and multi-level locator solution space. The agenda can be found at http://www3.ietf.org/proceedings/07mar/agenda/intarea.txt 3. Routing Area (Thursday 13:00--15:00): This is a fairly detailed discussion related to routing protocols/dynamics. The agenda can be found at http://www.arkko.com/ietf/ietf-68/ietf68_roap_agenda_rtg.txt 4. Routing Research Group (Saturday 17th, 10:00--18:00) The agenda can be found at http://www1.tools.ietf.org/group/irtf/trac/wiki/RRG
